Feng Shui which means "wind water" in Chinese is simply an ancient art and science that claims to utilize energy forces to harmonize individuals with their surrounding environment. Feng Shui is also known as Chinese geomancy and it is a pseudo-science whose history can be traced to ancient China. Feng is Chinese word which stands for wind in English and Shui is Chinese word which stands for water in English. The Chinese culture believes that water and wind are related to good health and this is why good Feng Shui is considered to mean good fortune while bad Feng Shui is considered to mean misfortune or bad luck. Initially, Feng Shui was often widely utilized for building orientation (mainly significant structures like tombs, dwellings and other structures) in an auspicious way.

The theory of Feng Shui is based on the art of channeling natural energy forces, commonly known as chi to improve our energy, wealth and health. The chi is said to be hidden energy that often flows through the earth and provides nourishment for all living things. Brief history of Feng Shui

The origin of Feng Shui can be traced back to ancient China thousands of years ago. The earliest record of Feng Shui is the early time of people settling to farm animals and grow crops. Initially, the theory of Feng Shui was often used to identify a secure dwelling place where families will be able to flourish and also to look for the best burial sites for dead relatives. And, in later times, it was then used to locate government buildings, palaces, and other public monuments. Fundamental principles of Feng Shui

Another fundamental principle of Feng Shui is the Yin and Yang which represents balance and continual change. The Yin and Yang are said to be dependent opposites that are required to be in balance all the time. One cannot survive without the other because they are mutually dependent opposites. Yin is also used to symbolize Female, Negative, Intuitive and Night. Yang is often used to symbolize Male, Positive, Logical and Day.

Bagua

The two ancient diagrams which are called the bagua are common fixtures from the clinic in Feng Shui. They may be in comparison to the cardinal points of the compass today. The bagua diagrams will also be linked with all the sifang or "four directions" method of divination which was popularly utilized during the Shang dynasty even though the sifang is regarded as much older. This element is also capable of redirecting and purifying Chi. If you want to represent the wood element of Feng Shui indoors, you can use trees, plants or any other green objects such as green pillows. Colors associated with the wood include Green and occasionally purple but not pastels. The wood element is also associated with the spring. The direction of the fire element is the Southeast and East.

Water

The water element used to symbolize the flow of money and career. Just like the concept of flowing water which helps you let go of things that you do not need anymore and still water which helps the surrounding energies to remain calm and provides the feeling of renewed strength and a new beginning. If you want to represent the water element of Feng Shui indoors, you can use an aquarium, a pond or a water feature. Other objects that can be used to represent the water element of Feng Shui include artwork and paintings of water scenes, crystals and wavy statues. Colors associated with the water element include Blue and other related colors. The water is also associated with the winter. The direction of the fire element is the North.

Metal

This element of Feng Shui draws and unifies all elements. The Metal element serves as a transmitter that conducts the various energies to different areas. The Metal element of Feng Shui symbolizes intellectual abilities and strength which makes it easier to focus and think clearly. Colors associated with the Metal element include Gray, White, Black, and Silver. The Metal Element is also associated with the fall. The direction of the fire element is the Northwest and West.

Earth

This element symbolizes home, permanence, and stability. The earth element of Feng Shui is solid and therefore it provides a sense of security and grounding support. It enhances the feeling of safety and provides a sense of comfort from inside an individual. Colors associated with the Earth element of Feng Shui include Beige, Sierra, Brown and other muted colors. The earth is also associated with End of the summer.
